Sudima Queenstown Five Mile

The Sudima Queenstown Five Mile is a 4.5-star hotel with 120 guest rooms over three storeys. It features an open dining room, public bar, heated outdoor balcony, conference and meeting rooms, plus ski and bike storage.

The 7,500sqm hotel sits over a 1,500sqm ground floor with 11 retail stores, connected to the hotel by a linkway. We handed over the ground floor ahead of the rest of the hotel, ensuring that the stores could complete their fitouts for Christmas trading.

The Sudima brand is environmentally focused, which aligns with Naylor Love’s sustainability goals. We ensured waste materials were kept to a minimum and recycled when possible, even holding a waste minimisation event for the local building fraternity on site.

A standout feature of the exterior is the Corten plate diamond sail. We arranged for the 16 massive panels to be fabricated in Wanaka, trucked overnight through the Cromwell Gorge, and installed over five nights, saving time and reducing disruption around the busy retail centre.

The global pandemic presented plenty of challenges, with material delays, lockdowns and stakeholders not being able to travel to site. We kept everything on track with careful procurement, meticulous planning, flexible programming and plenty of Zoom calls. Our quality assurance systems ensured that high standards were delivered, enabling us to hand over stages of the hotel early and defect free.
